Reading a short essay twice

A second reading is often slower but more practical. The first pass finds the shape; the next one tests the details.
I keep brief notes here about reading, attention, and the small habits that make ideas easier to revisit. Most entries begin in a paper notebook. I copy a few of them here after they have had time to settle. The aim is modest: to remember what I read, notice where my opinions change, and leave useful markers for later.

Looking back through one week of notes takes little time and keeps unfinished thoughts from disappearing.
This is not a daily journal. New pages appear only when a note remains useful after a few days. That delay removes many passing reactions and keeps the collection small enough to browse. Sometimes an old entry gets a minor correction, usually a clearer sentence or a more accurate book title. I prefer that kind of gradual maintenance to a large archive that I never read again.
